What doesn’t go in the bin

Almost everything can be recovered…
But not necessarily in the bin!

Municipal eco-centres, Éco-quartiers, Ressourceries centres, participating retailers and other drop-off points are there to receive items that are not included in selective collection programs.

Why certains items
Don’t go in the bin?

The sorting centres that receive recyclable materials have been designed mainly to receive containers, packaging, printed material and newspapers. Other types of items can damage the equipment and slow down production at the sorting centres. That is one of the reasons why hangers, vertical blinds and garden hoses are not accepted!

Remember

  1. 1. The first R in the 3R hierarchy stands for reduction at the source. This means making better consumption choices in order to produce as little residual matter as possible.
  2. 2. Soft plastic packaging, such as grocery bags or bread bags, can obstruct the machinery at the sorting centre. To recycle them properly, please bundle them together in a single, tied-up bag.
